Publications (link) Contact details Biography Dr Geoff Smith is Reader in Pharmaceutical Biophysics in the School of Pharmacy, De Montfort University. He originally trained as a Pharmacist (University of Bath) then obtained his PhD in 1991 from the University of Brighton, based on a programme of work using dielectric spectroscopy to investigate the properties of cells and liposomes and the effect of cryoprotectants on the freeze-thaw survival of these systems. Dr Smith now specialises in materials characterization by impedance spectroscopy and dielectric relaxation spectroscopy and has been instrumental in establishing pharmaceutical and biological applications for these techniques. Dr Smith has an established research group at De Montfort University that occupies two well-equipped laboratories with instrumentation to carry out broad band impedance/dielectric characterization of materials. Over the past two years he has initiated a new line of research and development into the design and implementation of temperature sensors for industrial process control.
